On November 8, 2020, Prime Minister Suga tweeted a congratulatory message to Mr. Joe Byden, who “declared victory” in the US presidential election, and there were quite a few voices of opposition in the reply column.
“Not yet decided” “President Trump is still fighting” “It is prudent to send a congratulatory message when it is officially decided in January” “Do not send a congratulatory message to the winners for fraud” “Identify the trial !!”

Are you surprised by the unexpected reaction?
Statements from national leaders too
These responses are sent one after another in the next post Mr. Suga wrote on Twitter early in the morning of the 8th.
“Congratulations to Joe Byden and Kamala Harris. Together in strengthening the Japan-United States alliance and ensuring peace, freedom and prosperity in the Indo-Pacific region and the world. I look forward to working on it.”
In the early hours of the morning of the 8th of Japan, the main US media reported on the “right” of the Byden Democratic Party. Mr. Byden and Mr. Kamala Harris, the vice presidential candidate, declared victory and gave a speech, and the presidential election, in which a close battle was fought, was decided by a large number of people for the time being.
Leaders from around the world, including British Prime Minister Johnson and German Prime Minister Merkel, also congratulated Byden one after another. Mr. Suga also sent a message to the new president as mentioned above.
The “Unauthorized Elections” Speech Was Broadcast in Japan
Approximately 7 hours after the publication, after 1:00 p.m., more than 1700 replies to the tweets have been sent. However, what stands out are, as mentioned above, posts that repel congratulations.
One account insists, “Mr. Suga, I understand the social decree, but it’s true!” (Original mom). This post has received over 700 likes. There are over 1000 likes for other answers that say “I haven’t decided yet.”
Of course, there are tweets that show understanding “because other countries are congratulating”, but it is a minority of the messages posted at the top of the reply column.
Incumbent Donald Trump has repeatedly suggested that the election may have been fraudulent and remains willing to lead it to court battle. Images and videos that are considered “evidence” of fraud are broadcast daily among supporters. This information has spread to Japan and is attracting attention, but many of these speeches have already been denied or questioned in media investigations.
