Red Bull Honda’s Max Felstappen won his first victory of the season with a pole-to-win in the final F1 round of the Abu Dhabi GP at the Yas Marina circuit last weekend.

Felstappen, who led the race from start to finish in the final and took his first victory in 2020 without any danger, was reported to have been installed on Mercedes’ Luis Hamilton and Bartelli Bottas machines at this race. The engine that had been used was said to have been configured for modest horsepower due to reliability concerns.
Some F1 officials seem to think that the victory for Felstappen and Red Bull Honda may be partly due to that.
Former F1 driver JJ Rate told Iltalehti in his native Finland about the matter:
“I think Mercedes was giving her rivals a little Christmas present.”
However, Bartelli Bottas, the same Finnish driver who finished the race in second place, said after the race:
“To be honest, I didn’t feel the engine’s power going down.”
