There is a possibility of a tsunami occurring over a wide area from the Pacific Ocean, such as Oceania to Central and South America. The Japan Meteorological Agency is investigating whether there is a tsunami in Japan.
There have been three earthquakes of M7 and above in New Zealand since last night.

Although a strict comparison is not possible, it appears to be an earthquake equivalent to a seismic intensity of about 5 or more when converted to the Japan Meteorological Agency seismic intensity class.
Based on the analysis at the same site, the depth of the epicenter is about 20 km, and it appears to be a reverse fault type earthquake, which is presumed to be the mechanism by which tsunamis are likely to occur.
