The fact that Japanese politicians are the worst is what has highlighted Corona’s ire, that’s what novelist Haruki Murakami says. From Corona to the topics of the Japan Academy of Sciences and what the country needs, he spoke in an interview with Diamond’s editorial department in late 2020. It will be delivered in two parts, the first part and the second part. (Deputy Editor of Diamond’s editorial department, Riuko Sugimoto)
Corona is not a sudden event
Something that I’ve always foreseen
–Nice to meet you.
(Looking at the reporter’s business card) Was “Diamond” a monthly magazine?
――No, it’s a weekly magazine. I only write about money.
That’s correct (laughs).
――I don’t think you’re familiar with it, but I look forward to working with you today. 2020 is about to end. It was a year in which the state of society and even its history changed due to the spread of the new corona virus. How did Mr. Murakami spend this year?
Originally, a writer was always at home and working alone. Especially since I have a limited range of relationships, I didn’t feel like my daily life had changed even in Corona.
Wake up in the morning, run around, work, listen to music, drink beer and sleep. My own life like this hasn’t changed much.
However, the world has changed a lot. Even if I write things by myself, I feel that kind of atmosphere. So I had to think about how to deal with it.
I don’t think the crown is a sudden individual event. I think it is one of the many factors that will change the world.
Right now, IT (information technology) is moving like a new industrial revolution. Climate change is also advancing. Population and globalization are also progressing, and the world is constantly changing.
Corona also joined as a mutation factor in such a trend. I can only see it that way. It’s more like something you’ve always anticipated has arrived, rather than a sudden crown disaster. …
