■ Honda F1: Final race report
In the F1 Abdavi GP final round finale, Max Felstappen won a pole-to-win and three Honda engines finished the season with a prize.
After a smooth start from pole position, Felstappen pushed the trailer out of DRS range on lap one to secure the lead.
Alexander Alban, who started in fifth place, passed Land Norris (McLaren), who was ahead on lap 6, and moved up to fourth place. The race will continue with two Aston Martin Red Bull Racing cars interspersed in the second and third Mercedes.
In the two Scuderia Alpha Tauri Honda cars, Danil Kubiat defended seventh from the starting position, and Pierre Guthrie dropped one position to finish the first lap in tenth. However, Guthrie, who picked up his pace after that, switched positions with Kubiat and advanced to eighth and ninth at the start.
On lap 11, Sergio Pérez (race point) was stopped on the track due to mechanical problems, and the safety car will be sent from the introduction of the virtual safety car. Given that it was the number of laps that could be run on hard tires to the finish, all four Honda power units will pit at this point and replace the tires. At this time, most of the rivals also made a pit stop at the same time and changed the tires in the same way.
Felstappen continues to extend his lead after the pits and receives the checkered flag while holding the fastest leash until the final stage of the race. Although he missed the fastest lap, he posted pole position, victory and all leading laps, and finished the final race of the season with a complete victory.
Arbon, a teammate, handles the tires well and advances the race in fourth position from start to finish, closing the gap with the Mercedes in the final stage. In the end, Luis Hamilton was close to third place for about 1.5 seconds, but he missed a notch and finished in fourth place.
Guthrie, who made a pit stop early in the race, was forced to lower his position behind the holding machine and run in traffic. However, when Charles Leclerc (Ferrari) and Lance Stroll (Racing Point) were overtaken in quick succession at Turn 11, Sebastian Better (Ferrari) also passed and finished in eighth place. I got 4 points. Kubiat fell back as well, but caught up with him and finished 11th, a step closer to the point.
■ Honda F1 wins 3 times a year, podium 14 times
After the 2020 season, Honda’s power unit scored the same three victories as in 2019. Last year’s victories were all due to Felstappen, but this season Red Bull Racing won two and Scuderia Alpha Tauri won one, with 14 podiums including these.
Red Bull Racing has won second place in the constructors ‘rankings for the first time in four years since 2016, and Scuderia Alpha Tauri has earned the biggest constructors’ points since 2006, when it started as Trorosso.
■ Honda PU is the only one without penalty
Additionally, Honda has kept PU usage to within three per year as regulated by the four drivers. As a result, the season ended with the only one without penalty among PU manufacturers, without any penalty for replacing PU.
