The Turkish GP Final of Round 14 of the 2020 F1 World Championship was held in Istanbul Park on Sunday, November 15, and Luis Hamilton (Mercedes) won the championship in difficult wet conditions. He won the seventh F1 world champion and set a record for Michael Schumacher in history.
The Turkish F1 GP, which was not included in the original F1 calendar, has returned to the calendar for the first time since 2011 due to the revision of the 2020 F1 World Championship calendar for the new corona virus.
Istanbul Park was popular with drivers, but the assessment changed completely when the road surface was resurfaced just before. Also, it rained on Saturday and Lance Stroll (race point) won the first pole position in F1 during tough qualifying. Max Felstappen (Red Bull Honda) came in second.
The weather was rainy the last day. The race was in difficult conditions, with heavy rain in the early stages and the road surface drying out towards the end.
The winner was Luis Hamilton, who started on the 6th grid. In the early stages, it seemed difficult to get on the podium because I couldn’t improve qualifying, but when the driver in front broke the tires and did a lap, I noticed that he was climbing to the top. However, I was out of luck and made a stop with 53 laps at intermission on the second stint with a wonderful race. It was not a flashy race, but in a race that showed strength, he achieved his ninth victory of the season and 94 laps in total, and won the seventh F1 World Champion, which is the highest record in the history of Michael Schumacher.
Second place is Sergio Pérez, a race point. Pérez also showed his ability to run 48 laps in the second period as intermission, and won the podium for the first time since the fourth round of the Azerbaijan GP in 2018.
Ferrari’s Sebastian Better started on the 12th grid in 3rd place. On the final lap, he overtook his teammate Charles Leclerc to win the podium for the first time since the 19th round of the Mexican GP in 2018. His teammate Charles Leclerc was fourth. McLaren’s Carlos Saints followed in fifth place.
Sixth place is Red Bull Honda’s Max Felstappen. Felstappen stalled early and fell to fifth place, but temporarily moved up to third place. However, after breaking the tires while turning during the battle with Sergio Pérez on lap 19, he had tire problems. In seventh place was his teammate Alexander Alban.
Eighth place Land Norris (McLaren) posted the fastest lap. The ninth place is Lance Stroll who started from pole position. Stroll held the top until he made a pit stop on lap 37, but couldn’t demonstrate his speed after that. Daniel Ricardo followed in tenth place.
Alpha Tauri Honda scored no points with Danil Kubiat in 12th place and Pierre Guthrie in 13th place.
