At the previous Hakone Ekiden, it was a historic high-speed race where the section record was updated by 7 sections. However, Rei Yoneman (fourth year of Soka University, now Konica Minolta), who won the section award in the first room, has a section record of Yuki Sato (second year of Tokai University, now SG Holdings Group ), 7 seconds in 1 hour 1 minute 06 seconds. I did not get it. In addition to the high-performance shoes from Nike, many influential players gathered and the previous tournament was blessed with good weather conditions. Although the high-level race was developed, the wall was thick and made me feel that it was a great record again.
Sato, who set the oldest section record, was exceptional
It was 2020, when the crown accident happened, but the good records continued in the long-distance university world, and the general level has risen. So, is there a chance that the record of the first district, which is the oldest section record of this Hakone Ekiden, will be rewritten?
Before considering renewal, let’s first look at the status of the 83rd convention of 2007 when this record was issued.
Sato, who was a sophomore in college, was number one on the list of 10 billion Japanese in 2006 and was already a prominent player in Japan, including the business team. The year before, even though he was in first grade, he set a new section record in all 3 districts. A star player who has been at the top of the generation since high school and set a high school record of 10,000 m 28 minutes 07 seconds 39, which still remains in Sakucho Seikou. His presence was so great that he was seen as a “special” among the athletes running in the first hall at that time.
In fact, when I jumped right after the start, Tomoya Onishi (then a sophomore at Toyo University, now Asahi Kasei’s coach) was the only one on his back. However, it was up to 2km earlier, and he went back at his own pace and retired. Sato passed 5 km 14 minutes 06 seconds (the lap time is not officially recognized, the same applies below), and 10 km passed at a high pace of 28 minutes 18 seconds. Onishi also took the form of running only in second place, but at the same time that Sato was completely forgotten in third place and below, he began to restrict the group. Sato was so fast that he ran hard in the second half with a leg cramp, but he advanced about 20km alone, marking a huge difference of 4 minutes 01 seconds to second place.
