PROFILE

About 40 years ago, the man came to the primary school I attended (Kawasaki City Nishimaruko Elementary School) as a school janitor (* now also called a “technical worker” depending on the local government). I forgot the details, but it was 1980 or 56 (81).

He was introduced at the morning assembly and he was slim and tall, and had a rather small face for a Japanese at the time. At that time, the girls who were crazy about the Tanokin trio (Toshihiko Tahara, Masahiko Kondo, Yoshio Nomura) started talking about it as soon as they were assigned to the office, saying, “This time, the janitor is great.”

The man’s name is Hiroaki Oyagi. Yes, it is a young figure of Mr. Hiroaki Oyagi (Director of Athletics Club, Komazawa University) who led Komazawa University to the seventh victory for the first time in 13 years at Hakone Ekiden (Ekiden University Run away and back in Tokyo Hakone).

The appearance of running home is also impressive

The following will be referred to as “Mr. Oyagi” as he was called in elementary school. Nishimaruko Elementary School (Nakahara-ku, Kawasaki City) is currently adjacent to the Isoriki Athletics Stadium, which is home to Kawasaki Frontale, but it is still a future story, such as the professionalization of soccer (since 1993). In the 1980s, the audience seats were not expanded and were not close enough to be called “adjacent.” Even so, he used that stadium for sporting events like the school marathon, so it was familiar to the locals.

Mr. Oyagi himself was only assigned to an elementary school in the city as an employee of the city of Kawasaki. So I wouldn’t have known the students’ conversations, but the appearance of a tall young man who suddenly appeared in elementary school was a topic of course. After finishing work after school, he switched to a short running tray, and the appearance of running home from elementary school with a backpack was also novel. This is partly because he was in contrast to the previous concierge who went to work with the “Savannah RX-7 (Mazda)” produced in Japan in response to the supercar boom of the early 1950s.
