Governor Yuriko Koike of Tokyo held an extraordinary press conference on the 2nd on the extension of the declaration of the state of emergency due to the spread of the new coronavirus infection. In response to the extension of the declaration, the capital will continue to ask restaurants to shorten business hours and will strengthen support for the private sector to support telecommuting. The business of providing business hotels as temporary accommodation to those who have lost their homes will also be expanded.
The number of accommodation establishments will increase by one every three days to a total of thirteen, so that a total of 360 people will be able to enter. The number of beds has increased to 4,900.
The number of newly infected people reported in Tokyo has been gradually declining since it reached a record 2,447 on January 7. However, the number of seriously ill people was 129 on Day 2, and it has surpassed 100 in a row since January 3 and has not decreased. The death toll was reported to be 23, the highest number so far on Day 2, and the dire situation continues.
