Jan 07, 2021 6:55 PM update

Iwate Prefecture and Morioka City announced on the 7th that three new coronavirus infections were confirmed. This month, the prefecture was cautious, as many of the people whose infections were announced were not related to previous patients.

Three new infections were confirmed in Morioka and Kitakami, three men in their 30s and 40s, one asymptomatic and two who were not seriously ill. Of these, a thirty-something official in the city of Morioka was a staff member of the Matsuzono branch of the Morioka Central Fire Department and worked primarily as an emergency worker until the 6th day. There is no exit from the prefecture, and the city of Morioka says it is “under investigation” regarding the route of infection. All 20 members of the branch staff, excluding this man, are on standby at home and will be inspected in the future. The Morioka Central Fire Department is said to have been briefing staff on infection control since the group occurred at the Katsumaki branch.

“It is well known that we eat long meals and take turns in small groups, we do not speak during meals and we do not remove our mask when we are at work 24 hours a day.

Additionally, an office worker in his 40s in Kitakami City was a contact person for three family members in Kitakami City, whose infection was announced on the 5th, and 12 people were using restaurants in the prefecture on 30 last month. Additionally, a male office worker in his 40s in Morioka City has been out of the prefecture for about a month for work until the 29th of last month. I use the accommodations in the prefecture twice during the end of the year and the New Year, but the source of infection has not been identified. Two of the three infections confirmed on day 7 were unrelated to previous patients, and the prefecture stated the following regarding the trend of those confirmed to be infected this month.

(Iwate Prefectural Department of Health and Welfare, Keiichiro Kudo, Director of the Office of Medical Policy)
“Although the total number of (infected people) is small, there are cases that have nothing to do with the cases of infection so far, so we must be cautious.”

A total of 405 people have been confirmed to be infected in the prefecture.
