At a regular meeting on the 13th, Governor Motohiro Ohno revealed that securing a bed for the seriously ill with the new coronavirus was overdue. It was said that 131 beds would be prepared by day 11 due to the rapidly increasing number of patients, but only 112 beds could be used immediately. After that, it increased slightly, and it is said that it will reach 124 beds on the 14th, but it has not reached the goal.
According to Saitama Prefecture, the number of new corona patients as of the 12th is 4,925, of which 917 (67 seriously ill) are hospitalized. By the same day, the prefecture had secured 1,267 beds for the new crown (including 117 beds for seriously ill people). The rate of use of beds is 72.4% (severe 57.3%).
Governor Ohno explained that the reason the bed was not secured as planned was that a large group (group of infected people) occurred at the Toda Central General Hospital in the city of Toda. The hospital has stopped accepting emergency patients and other medical institutions planning to open a bed in critical condition are responding.
He also noted that the demand for artificial respirators necessary for the treatment of critically ill patients has increased and has not been sufficiently distributed to medical institutions.
While the number of general crown beds will gradually increase, the number of crown patients in need of nursing care, such as dementia patients and the elderly, is increasing, and the safety of medical personnel was also mentioned as an issue. (Kiyo Iida)
