Regarding the measure to support government restaurants “Go To Eat”, the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries announced on the 27th that 10 prefectures across the country, including Tokyo and Osaka, have decided to suspend ticket sales from premium food.

Following the spread of the new corona virus, the ministry called for the suspension of sales.

Sales will be suspended in 10 prefectures: Hokkaido, Ibaraki, Saitama, Chiba, Tokyo, Kanagawa, Shizuoka, Aichi, Osaka and Hyogo. The four prefectures of Hokkaido, Chiba, Tokyo and Osaka will suspend sales until mid-December. Aichi, who sells food tickets to lottery winners, will continue to accept the lottery, but will not announce the winner of the food tickets scheduled for December 16 and 21. The timing of resuming sales in the other five prefectures is said to be undecided.

Hokkaido (Sapporo City only), Saitama, Tokyo, and Osaka ask users to refrain from using points and issued food tickets. According to the Ministry of Agriculture and Fisheries, it is a heavy burden for the restaurant to refuse the use of tickets and food points, so it is just a call.

The “Eat” business aimed to support the food and beverage industry by issuing premium meal tickets that allow people to eat and drink 25% more than the purchase price, and by awarding points of up to 1,000 yen for food and beverages to through online reservations. However, there is growing concern that it may encourage infection-prone dinners, and more local governments may decide to suspend them in the future. (Shinya Takagi)
