Toyoji Tanabe, Honda F1 Technical Director, recalls the final race of the 2020 F1 World Championship Round 10 F1 Russia GP.
Red Bull Honda’s Max Felstappen won the podium second in the final of the F1 Russian GP at the Sochi Autodrome, and the other 3 cars finished the race in the top 10 and 4 machines equipped with the F1 power unit from Sling. All the cars earned points.
Red Bull Honda’s Alexander Alban finished in 10th place, Alpha Tauri Honda finished in eighth place from his native GP, Danil Kubiat, and Pierre Guthrie in ninth place.
As Honda’s F1 engine, all car points were earned since the Monaco GP in 2019. Also, on the Felstappen podium, the number of podium acquisitions since returning to F1 in 2015 surpassed 19 times in the third F1 activity, reaching 20 times.
“In the final of today’s Russian GP, Aston Martin Redbull Racing’s Felstappen stayed second from the start of the race and took second place on the podium, breaking into two Mercedes cars,” said Toyoji Tanabe.
“His teammate Arbon was not easy at the beginning of 15th place, but he made good use of his 2-stop strategy and showed a powerful run to climb to 10th within the points range. Scuderia Alpha Tauri Kubiato finished 8th and Guthrie he finished ninth, avoiding the turbulence at the start of both cars. I think they both showed several overtaking and it was a good performance. “
“All four Hondas have completed the race, and I think the race ended in good condition considering the victory of all the cars since last year’s Monaco GP and the last races.
“From here, I will return to Europe and have a week to race in Germany. The Nürbullink will be the first race under current regulations, so I would like to consider it thoroughly through simulations and prepare for it.”
