“Apple Watch Series 6” and “Apple Watch SE” will launch tomorrow, September 18. Before launch, I was able to wrap these two models around my arm and test them out. Due to the short time, apps for sleeping, etc. are not available, but we will give you the first impression immediately.
First, from Series 6. Since it inherits the design from Series 4 and later, the appearance does not change at first glance, but because it is a new blue aluminum color that I borrowed, it looks brighter than the black. However, it is deep blue and looks calm so it seems to go well with formal wear. The author who wants the shine of precious metal for accessories is a stainless steel writer, but the ease of handling is superior to aluminum.
I was also able to install the newly introduced “Solo Loop” band without fasteners or holes. At first glance, the texture is similar to that of a sports band, but when you stretch it, the band expands and conforms to your arm. As it was borrowed, it seems that the size is a little small and tight, but if you choose the right one, it will feel good to wear. Since it has no bras, it looks minimal and is easy to put on and take off. No need to worry about it coming off and it looks perfect for sports.
Immediately after using it, I felt the response was good. The difference is clear because I have used the Series 4 for two generations. Since the Series 4 is not extremely slow, it can be difficult to make a numerical difference, but I have the impression that the operating feel of small parts, such as where the application starts quickly, is improved.
Personally, I am happy that it supports 5GHz Wi-Fi. When I use it at home, I sometimes leave my iPhone on the charger and put my Apple Watch on and go to another room, but until now it was only connecting to the 2.4GHz Wi-Fi band. No. Due to interference issues, we were promoting the switch to 5GHz for Wi-Fi at home, but with the support of Apple Watch, it seems like it will be okay to stop the 2.4GHz band soon. When I turned off the Bluetooth on the iPhone side at the office, where only 5 GHz band Wi-Fi was used as a test, I was able to connect successfully.
After Series 5, Apple Watch Series 6 has a screen that always shows, and one of the points is that it is brighter. By changing the design to black when not active and stopping the movement of the second hand, etc., the battery consumption is reduced. On the other hand, with the Series 5, the downside was that the screen when idle was a bit dark. The Apple Watch Series 6 is said to be about 25% brighter than the Series 5 and can actually read characters well outdoors and even when idle.
Checking the time is the basics of the watch, so this is a nice improvement. However, to reduce battery consumption, it will remain black when idle. If you use a dial based on other colors, the screen will display in its original color only when you lift or touch your wrist. It feels weird here when it’s like an analog clock. If you want to use the constant display function, it is a good idea to choose a black-based dial.
I also tried the newly installed “blood oxygen wellness feature” on Series 6. When I start the app, the guide will be displayed for the first time. You can measure your blood oxygen by firmly placing it slightly away from your wrist, fixing it by placing your arm on a desk, and then waiting 15 seconds. When I measured it, the result was 97%. This app is said to be for wellness only, not for medical use, but can be used for purposes like capturing numerical values and taking care of health.
Next, Apple Watch SE. It is a terminal that has an impact on the price from 29,800 yen more than in the functional aspect, but it does not seem cheap at all. Since the base is “Apple Watch Series 5”, the screen is large and the texture is the same. However, since SE does not have a stainless steel model, it is not suitable for shine-oriented groups.
Unfortunately, the watch cannot be displayed all the time and the screen will go dark if the wrist is not lifted, but for users who have only worn up to Series 4, it is a comfortable specification. Since it has all the basic functions like an Apple Watch, it seems like people who haven’t used it as an introductory machine can easily have it. Also, since Apple Watch SE has a built-in eSIM and supports cellular communication, the new watchOS 7 feature “Family Sharing Settings” can be used. It seems good to use the family sharing environment as a substitute for your children’s mobile phone. After that I would like to hope that the au fee will be a little cheaper.
