The new Oculus HMD standalone VR model “Oculus Quest 2” will be released on October 13 (Tuesday). This time, it’s also being sold in massive home electronics retailers, with some stores taking pre-orders.
The OTC price is 33,800 yen (37,180 yen including tax) for the 64GB storage model (model number 301-00352-01) and 44,800 yen (49,280 yen including tax) for the 256GB model ( 301-00353-01).
Oculus Quest 2 is a VR HMD (head-mount display) equipped with Qualcomm’s Snapdragon XR2 SoC (equivalent to Snapdragon 865) and two displays with a resolution of 1,832 x 1,920 dots.
An HMD that works only on the head unit and allows you to enjoy VR content, following the Oculus Quest released in May 2019. The screen resolution has improved 1.5 times over the 1,440 x 1,600 Quest points , and the memory and SoC specs have been beefed up while the price has dropped.
Memory capacity increased from 4GB to 6GB. There are two types of storage, a 64GB model and a 256GB model, and the maximum capacity has doubled from 128GB. The company claims that it has doubled the processing speed by increasing the memory and adopting the Snapdragon XR2.
In addition, the redesigned “touch controller” allows for more natural and precise operation.
From this point on, it will be sold in general stores and will be easier to obtain (Quest is only sold directly by the company and through retail partners). The distributors are Geo, Big Camera (Sofmap), Yamada Electric (Tsukumo) and Yodobashi Camera.
You can play virtual reality titles for PC by connecting to a Windows PC equipped with a compatible GPU via USB Type-C. The company offers a 5m long USB 3.2 Gen1 Type-C cable “Oculus Link Cable” as an option.
Quest 2 includes touch controller (2 pieces), headphone cable, AA battery (2 pieces), 10W power adapter, spacer for glasses.
