Apple announced the Apple Watch Series 6 at the “Apple Event” starting at 2:00 am on the 16th. As has been rumored for some time, it is equipped with a blood oxygen saturation (SpO2) sensor and is further strengthened as a health management device.
The price starts from 42,800 yen (excluding tax). Like the Series 5, there are two sizes, 40mm and 44mm, launching on September 18.
SpO2 here is an index that shows how much oxygen is in the blood. Generally, 95-100% is considered healthy, less than 80% can affect heart and brain function, and low values continue to pose a risk of respiratory or cardiopulmonary arrest.
Commercially available pulse oximeters (SpO2 measuring instruments) are usually held with a finger, but in the Series 6, this is accomplished by a new sensor consisting of four groups of LEDs and four photodiodes. Built into a completely redesigned glass on the back of the Apple Watch, it works with the Blood Oxygen Concentration app to measure numbers.
For this role, Apple advocates the concept of “wellbeing with blood oxygen.” In other words, it is intended for general fitness and well-being, and is out of defensive range for medical or diagnostic use. I would like to use this as a guide to roughly measure my fitness.
The SoC, which is the heart of the Apple Watch, has also been upgraded from the previous model S5 Series to S6. Based on the A13 installed in the iPhone 11 series, it is claimed to be up to 20% faster. The charging speed is also high and it is said that it can be fully charged in 1.5 hours.
In addition, the brightness during sleep with constant display is up to 2.5 times higher than that of the Series 5, making it easier to view outdoors, and it is also equipped with an altitude meter to measure the current altitude. It can be a good companion for mountaineering and for daily health check.
And two new colors have been added, (PRODUCT) RED and a blue aluminum case. It will be the most colorful line of all Apple watches.
