Alpha Tauri Honda’s Pierre Guthrie won the final race of the F1 Round 8 Italian GP (Monza on the 6th) for the first time. Honda and Alpha Tauri won the memorable 50th race. Honda F1 looked back on the turbulent final race as follows.

■ Honda F1: Final race report
The Italian F1 GP at the Monza circuit was a dramatic development with a safety car and a red flag interruption, and Scuderia Alpha Tauri Honda’s Pierre Guthrie scored his first career victory. Alpha Tauri won the home GP and added a touch of glamor to the 50th anniversary of the partnership with Honda.
On lap 19, Kevin Magnussen (Haas) stopped near the pit entrance due to a machine problem, and when the yellow flag was raised in Sector 3, Alpha Tauri put Guthrie in the pit and replaced him with hard tires. Immediately after this, a safety car was introduced, but at the same time, an instruction was issued to close the pit lane taking into account the position of the Magnussen machine that had stopped.
For this reason, it was not possible to pit each car immediately after the introduction of the safety car, and the pit lane was finally opened when a formation formed behind the safety car. Each car headed to the pits to change tires, with Felstappen, Kubiat and Arbon also pitting at this point. On the other hand, Guthrie, who had finished the pit work a bit earlier and was in the peloton, came out ahead of the machine that pitted later and moved up to 3rd place.
Immediately after the safety car is released, Leclerc suffers a severe accident at Parabolica at the last corner. Fortunately, the pilot was safe, but the race was interrupted by a red flag due to the need to repair the barrier next to the course. During this time, each car was allowed to change tires, Guthrie was replaced with new medium tires, Felstappen and Kubiat were replaced with used medium tires used in free practice, and Arbon was replaced with hard tires.
The race resumed with a stopped start where each car was on the grid and was restarted from lap 27. Guthrie on the third grid got off to a good start and came out in front of the ride to secure second place. Also, leader Luis Hamilton (Mercedes) has been given a stop and go penalty for pitting in the nearby pit lane, and digestion will set him back.
In this way, Guthrie, who took the lead with 26 laps to go, keeps running fast while widening the gap with the following. Additionally, Kubiat was also 10th to secure the point rank. On the other hand, the Red Bulls withdrew because Felstappen had a power unit (PU) problem. Arbon was forced to run backwards, suffering damage to machines and traffic.
From the moment the race was about to reach the remaining 15 laps, Carlos Saints (McLaren), who was in 2nd position, gradually reduced the distance with Guthrie, and in the last laps he was placed in the DRS range. However, even under this pressure, Guthrie ran towards the inspector without any error, eventually holding down Signs for about 0.4 seconds and achieving the first F1 victory of his career. This victory will be Honda’s first with Alpha Tauri.
Additionally, Alpha Tauri is the second team to win the Honda PU after Red Bull, but since the current PU regulations were introduced in 2014, multiple teams have won the championship with PU from the same manufacturer. Its the first time.
His teammate Kubiato continued to fight with the machines around him, eventually moving up to ninth place to score 2 points. Arbon finished the race in 15th place with a loss of time of approximately 2 seconds per lap due to damage to the machine.
The next race will be the final on Sunday, September 13, a week later, and will be held as the Tuscany GP at the Mugero Circuit, which will be held for the first time in F1.
