Prime Minister Shinzo Abe will hold a press conference at 6:00 pm on May 14 and announced that some prefectures will cancel the emergency declaration that is being issued across the country.
The target of the cancellation is 39 prefectures, which include 34 prefectures not included in the “special alert prefectures” and 5 prefectures of Ibaraki, Ishikawa, Gifu, Aichi and Fukuoka.
On the other hand, the cancellation was postponed in eight specific precautionary prefectures near metropolitan areas such as Hokkaido, Tokyo, and Osaka. The prefectures where the emergency declaration is continued are as follows.

Whether or not the declaration can be lifted in these areas will be reconsidered around May 21, one week later.
The deadline for the emergency declaration is May 31. The government will decide before the deadline whether to “re-extend” or “remove” the statement.
On the other hand, Prime Minister Abe said he could not reduce the risk of infection to zero and said: “There could be a second emergency declaration if the infection spreads faster.”
