Based on the infection situation and the burden on the medical system, the prime minister will decide the target area and period and will also refer to the opinions of the subcommittee on basic coping policies by the experts. The prefectural governor of the target area can order restaurants to shorten their opening hours and, if they do not comply with the order, they can impose a fine of 200,000 yen or less.
Osaka prefecture comes first
On January 7, the government issued a state of emergency for the first time in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba and Kanagawa prefectures over the new crown. The prefectures of Tochigi, Gifu, Aichi, Kyoto, Osaka, Council and Fukuoka have been added on January 13.
The cancellation of the state of emergency began on February 8 in Tochigi prefecture. It was canceled in Gifu, Aichi, Kyoto, Osaka, Hyogo, Fukuoka 6 prefectures on March 1, and in Tokyo, Saitama, Chiba, and Kanagawa prefectures 4 on March 22.
