The Tokyo Metropolitan Government follow-up meeting to analyze the infection status of the new coronavirus was held at the Tokyo Metropolitan Government Building on the 4th, and Dr. Takao Omagari from the National Center for Global Health and Medicine (District Shinjuku Department) reported the results of a Patient Sequel Survey. Mr. Omagari once again called for cooperation in infection control measures, saying: “The aftermath, including the young ones, have various symptoms and are prolonged. It is important not to get corona.”
When interviewing 63 people who were discharged from the center between February and June of last year by telephone, 48 people presented sequelae such as cough, dyspnea, malaise, and olfactory and taste alterations. Nine out of twelve people in their twenties and five out of six people in their thirties complained of sequelae, which were confirmed in a wide range of age groups, from young to old. Hair loss was also seen in about 1 in 4 people.
Two months after the start, about half complained of some sequelae and some remained even after four months. The cause is unclear and a cure has not been established.
From January 26 to February 1, the percentage of new positives aged 65 and over was 25.6%, 3.8 points more than the previous week. Reports of deaths are increasing, especially among the elderly, and Mr. Omagari complained after the meeting that “(the new crown) is a disease with a very strong correlation between age and risk of dying. That is why it should not be spread to the elderly. ” (Hiroshi Matsuo)
