James Bond star Mads Mickelsen names Johnny Depp in ‘Fantastic Beasts’


Danish actor Mads Mickelsen will replace Johnny Depp in the upcoming film “Fantastic Beasts”.

Warner Bros. Pictures announced on Wednesday that the 55-year-old star is known for his roles in the James Bond films “Casino Royale”, “Hannibal” and “Rogue One: A Star Wars Story”.

The third installment of “Fantastic Beasts” is in production outside London. Its release date is set for July 15, 2022.

Mickelson’s casting came just weeks after Depp’s departure as Depp’s villain in the “Harry Potter” prequel series was confirmed.

“Johnny Depp will be leaving the Fantastic Beasts franchise. We thank Johnny for his work in today’s films, ”the studio said. “‘Fantastic Beasts 3’ is currently in production, and the role of Galert Grindelwald will resume. The film will hit theaters worldwide in the summer of 2022. ”

Depp also confirmed the news in a statement on social media, saying he had accepted the request to resign.

“I would like to inform you that I have been asked by Warner Bros. to resign from the role of Grindelwald in Fantastic Beasts and I have accepted and agreed to that request,” he wrote.

Depp added, “I want to thank everyone who has given me their support and loyalty. I am especially humbled and inspired by your many messages of love and concern over the last few days. ”

He concluded: “Finally, I want to say this. Surrealistic judgment [sic] My fight to tell the UK court the truth will not change and I confirm that I plan to appeal.
