Even though Dreamville Records President Ibrahim Hamad said J. Cole won’t be releasing a new album anytime soon, fans are now getting two new records tonight.
As promised, Cole left a two-pack for fans on Wednesday night (July 22). The Dreamvillians have been waiting for a new heat from Cole and he delivered. The 35-year-old rapper released “The Climb Back” and “Lion King on Ice.” Announced the arrival of the records, which is packaged in the transmission services under Lewis Street, in a tweet, that said: “The first 2 songs of The Fall Off. Now on sale”.
“Enough straps to fill four Uhauls / More death than World War II caused around these parts / We poured coffee just to drown these thoughts / Of black corpses in the county morgues, Lord, those images haunt / I have not slept yet, It’s 10 in the morning / I’m sending a warning, a problem with me is like the BET Hip-Hop awards, I’m starting to see that black people don’t want it / I’m sick of this boast, Black people I know don’t have any more money than Cole “, says the first verse of” The Climb Back “, while introspectively recounting the events of his past.
“Lion King on Ice” was also produced by J. Cole alongside beatmakers T-Minus and Jetsonmade.
“I don’t want to be the reason for one more sad song / I tried to warn the blacks that they wouldn’t last long / I hope they see how they came and went / Their shots never gave but they made their attempts / May you have a good year as their name in a blimp / But you know what it takes to blow up that long / Dedication on another level niggas never seen in his life / Celebrating all your first kills like his touchdowns come at a price, “Cole raps on” Lion King on Ice “, while It refers to his nickname Young Simba that he used to use in the early years of his rap career.
The Fayetteville, North Carolina spitter first announced the arrival of the tracks yesterday (July 21) when he shared a post on social media stating that the two singles would fall. Although he hinted that the records will appear on his next album, he avoided additional details about the EP.
“The Climb Back – produced by me” started. “” Lion King on Ice – produced by J. Cole, T-Minus, and Jetson. First 2 songs of The Fall Off. Leaving tomorrow night at 10pm. There’s no date for the album yet, I take my time and I’m still finishing. “
These two tracks appear to be the first excerpts from Cole’s highly anticipated album, The fall. It’s unclear when the LP will drop, but 2010 XXL Freshman announced two years ago that an album was being prepared when he released “1985 (Intro to ‘The Fall Off’)”, which appears on KOD. Since that time, fans have been patiently waiting for the album announcement.
EarthGang’s Olu actually told Cole fans via Instagram Live this month that a rapper album is coming, but was delayed due to the coronavirus pandemic. With Olu saying yes to the project falling and Ibrahim saying no, things are quite uncertain. However, these two new records should retain fans until Cole hits them with a release date.
