“Yes, swimming in the sea, the coronavirus is not transmitted with water.” Are the words of Nicola Petrosillo, director of the clinical and research department of Infectious Diseases of the Spallanzani hospital, during a videoconference with the president of the Rome Chamber of Commerce, Lorenzo Tagliavanti, and Maria Rosaria Capobianchi, director of the department of Epidemiology, Research and Preclinical Diagnosis Spallanzani. Good news for managers of bathing establishments, kiosks and restaurants on the Italian coast. Waiting for the green light for the season, they are organizing to welcome swimmers, between maintenance and assumptions about how to spread umbrellas and loungers to avoid meetings on the beach. Petrosillo explained that: “Even if an infected person bathed, they would spread the virus in the water. Everything dilutes in the sea.” But he clarified: “Of course, it is better not to swim face to face with another person, but seawater is not in itself a vehicle of infection“
The rules of bathing establishments.
On the beach, in the summer of 2020, managers of Italian bathing establishments should position the beach equipment so that the minimum distance between the rows of umbrellas is 5 meters, while between the umbrellas in the same row should be 4.5 meters. As for beds, loungers and chairs, they should be at least two meters from the closest umbrella. Guests will be expressly requested to wear a mask from the moment they enter the establishment until they reach their position on the beach, to protect public health. The rule is that of social distancing that will also apply to free beaches. Doubts about beach play or sports activities, such as group games, which are likely prohibited, due to the risk of creating unauthorized meetings. Eating in the restaurant will only be allowed if it is possible to respect social distance.
