Romina Colombini was in via Veneto when the storm hit Rosignano. This is how you remember those dramatic moments
ROSIGNANE. The unpredictable plot of fate left death an inch away. Right at night when fear takes on the dull sound of hail. And the appearance of tattered walls that become darts thrown by the storm. Ice falls from the sky and becomes thicker and thicker. Tick, tock, tick, tock. And the wind screams with all its might. Then suddenly a noise. Shock. It’s the huge pine tree that hits the hood, hugging the little black Renault with its hair. Me Romina colombini if she had stopped the car a few inches later, the trunk would have overwhelmed her. And if the crazed splinter that lodged in the rear fender had taken a slightly different trajectory, it probably would have broken through the glass, continuing its journey inside the car. But fate (or chance), yes, you know, knows reasons that the mind does not know. “There was a storm and the hail was falling. Then there was a very strong gust of wind that made the car vibrate. Shards hit her, the rear glass shattered. I curled up like a hedgehog. Then the tree fell. I said to myself: I will stay here tonight. On Friday night Romina was in via Veneto, in Rosignano, driving the car that was hit by the big pine uprooted by the whirlwind. Now she is fine, but the fear was great and the 24-year-old feels “twice miraculous”. This is how the young woman remembers those terrible moments.
“I left work around 10:10 pm and got in the car. There was a storm with hail, lightning and lightning. I wanted to stop, but I didn’t want to stay under the trees, I wanted to get to a free place. But there was no time. The whirlwind hit her squarely. “A very strong gust of wind shook the car and there were fragments that came towards me. I stopped the car there, in the middle of the road and huddled. That’s when the pine hit me. Seconds that seem like a lifetime. “I have not found the strength to go out. He was immobilized. And then things kept flying. The fragments were bullets with impressive speed. So much so that the glass behind exploded because it was hit by a tile. I started to feel cold. At one point Romina called 118 and her brother, “but in the meantime a boy has arrived. She was in one of the other cars that got stuck, she opened the door for me and helped me out. I would never have done it alone: I was afraid to get the nose out of the car.
Once outside, Romina found herself in front of a bleak and unexpected scenario: it is the devastation left by the whirlwind. An almost warlike atmosphere – says Romina – Outside there was a clean slate. Fallen trees, fragments everywhere and then, in the distance, the rays of light coming from the torches of the rescuers. It was a surreal setting. With the arrival of the numerous ambulances that rushed to the area, on Friday afternoon they picked up Romina and took her to the emergency room in Cecina for her review. Some pain, but above all a lot of fear. «I’m fine – he says – I only had a lash. I realize it went well. I am a miracle worker. Romina says there are only a few kilometers left to separate her Morelline home from her workplace, a grocery store. “It usually takes me a few minutes to go that route.” But on Friday night, fate drew a different and unpredictable pattern. “I think I was in that car during the storm for about ten minutes. But it really seemed like an eternity. “
