Changes in sight for the map of Italy, divided into yellow, orange and red zones since last November 3. Today the Higher Institute of Health will publish its latest follow-up on the epidemiological situation in the country and, based on the new data, the control room will decide which regions will change color. Which territories, where the situation regarding infections and hospital capacity continues to be critical, will go to the red zone and which can remain in the orange or yellow zone. But what are the regions at risk? The alert is high in Puglia, Liguria and Basilicata, currently in the orange zone. In Puglia, however, it could proceed, as also requested by President Michele Emiliano, to close only the provinces most affected by the coronavirus (Barletta-Andria-Trani and Foggia). The eyes were also focused on Veneto, who could go from the yellow zone to the orange one. For Abruzzo, confirmation of the red zone is expected, established independently by Governor Marco Marsilio.
Already today the Minister of Health, Roberto Speranza, could issue an ordinance, which will come into effect on Sunday or directly next Monday. It is not yet clear which regions will be affected by the changes, but they will almost certainly be there. As confirmed by the Minister of Regional Affairs, Francesco Boccia, who said he did not rule out the possibility that soon there may be other Regions in the red zone. And he also underlined the possibility of differentiating the zones within the same Region: in this case, Puglia could continue to be the orange zone and introduce more restrictive measures only in the areas where the situation is most critical.
Meanwhile, some regions are already talking about the possibility of making existing measures more flexible. In fact, two weeks have passed since the introduction of bans and restrictions for the first Regions that effectively returned to a kind of blockade (Lombardy, Piedmont, Valle d’Aosta and Calabria): in other words, the time needed to assess the incidence of measures in the spread of infection. And in the event that the data confirms its effectiveness, some rules could be relaxed. For this eventuality, however, it still seems early.
On the contrary, some Regions, such as Abruzzo, move independentlyand introduce stricter rules. In Sicily, President Nello Musumeci confirmed that he had spoken with Minister Speranza and issued an order to limit contagion opportunities on weekends, with the closure of non-essential commercial activities. Even Puglia, in the event that the orange zone is confirmed today, could proceed alone with the closure of the two provinces most affected by Covid-19.
