Bologna, August 28, 2020 – The sun that, since this morning, shines over most of the region, seems to herald another weekend with a decidedly summery flavor but be careful not to forget the umbrella: the high pressure that currently dominates our country is destined to collapse soon, under pressure from one strong disturbance of Atlantic origin. Disturbance that – confirms Arpae Meteorology Expert (Regional Agency for Prevention, Energy and Environment), Alessandro Donati – from Scandinavia he is now heading towards the Iberian Peninsula, making his effects felt in much of the continent.

Donati, what should we expect, then, for the weekend?
“The meteorological conditions will worsen after the arrival of humid and unstable currents: however, as of tonight, the area north of the Po River (in particular Piedmont and Lombardy) will be particularly affected. In our region, the most intense will be limited to the central-western sector of the Apennines “.

For this reason it has just issued a meteorological alert, in consultation with the regional civil protection.
“This is a ‘yellow’ alert (ordinary criticality) for storms, landslides and flooding of smaller rivers and streams, valid from midnight on Friday, for 24 hours. That is, for the whole day on Saturday.”

Which provinces will be affected?
In particular, those of Parma and Piacenza, Reggio Emilia, Modena, Bologna, Ferrara and Ravenna. The storms, in fact, will initially be concentrated in the Apennine mountain ranges, but from the afternoon they could also spread to the western plains of the region. Locally, the storms could be accompanied by hailstorms and strong gusts of wind. “

In Romagna, however, the sun will continue to shine on Saturday.
“Yes, in Romagna the sky will be clear and temperatures will be very high, with peaks of 35 degrees. The sensation of bioclimatic discomfort due to the heat and the southerly winds that will blow down the Adriatic coast will be widespread.”

We arrived on Sunday August 30.
“The central-west of our region will continue to suffer rainfall, while the rest of the territory will see a coming and going of clouds and isolated showers. Temperatures will begin to drop slowly, reaching 30 degrees.”

So when will the much dreaded summer ‘break’ take place?
“Actually we can speak of a slow and gradual break, not of a sudden and abrupt interruption, as has happened in other cases. On Monday 31st the erosion of maximum temperatures will continue: the threshold of 26 ° will not be exceeded in the western sector. and on the 28th on the coast of Romagna. Both Monday and Tuesday will be days of transition, waiting for a new disturbed momentum ”.

Will September open under the banner of bad weather?
“On Wednesday 2 we expect the transit of a new disturbance, which will be concentrated in the central-north regions and will determine a new drop in temperatures: in the interior the maximum values will remain around 20 degrees, in Romagna it will not exceed all 25 “.

So, summer is over.
“Don’t worry: once the rains have passed, starting on Friday we will see a comeback of the high pressure, which will cause the temperatures to return to around 28-30 degrees, with no perception of heat due to the northeast winds. enjoy a pleasant and sunny first weekend in September “.
