While in the Center-North and in Campania there are showers and storms due to the establishment of a circulation of deep depression fed by cool and humid Atlantic currents, in Sicily the meteorological evolution is still dominated by the influx of hot and dry winds from Libeccio, locally exceeding 40-50 km / h. The currents from the south determine maximum temperatures with purely summer connotations, in a context that is still mostly sunny: currently there are peaks of 33 ° C in Palermo and along the Tyrrhenian coast of Messina and up to 34-35 ° C between the plain of Catania and the areas more inland than the Syracusan.

The anomalous heat – say meteorologists of 3b meteo – however, the hours are numbered and therefore the conditions of atmospheric stability: late in the afternoon today the cold front of Atlantic origin will touch Sicily from the northwestern provinces, bringing the first scattered and isolated rains, more probable and constant in the Tyrrhenian provinces, a first major thermal drop and an additional reinforcement of ventilation, which will take the character of a storm in Lower Tirreno and Canale di Sicilia.

However, the highlight of the day will be represented by a sharp drop in temperatures, quantifiable by 9-12 degrees lower in the short period of 24 hours.

Driven by a low pressure vortex centered on the Italian seas, a second disturbance will hit the island between the afternoon and evening of Sunday 27, bringing downpours and thunderstorms that locally could also acquire a character of strong intensity. In this context, the first snowfalls of the season can affect the area of ​​the Etna summit.

This will be followed by a beginning of the week characterized by temperatures similar to the climatic averages of early autumn (relatively cool in the interior and in the hills, up to 25-27 ° C in the coastal sections) and still marked by clouds and intermittent showers in the provinces. western and along the Tyrrhenian belt. The southern coasts and the Ionian sectors of the island will remain more sheltered, where the great sunny phases will find space.
