We vote, the League’s “Russian track” reappears

Milan. Look around you, Matteo Salvini today sees a prosecutor chasing you. A few days before the regional elections, every time the League’s legal problems are discussed, the former Interior Minister makes a show of calm and minimizes with jokes. But in reality, the leader of the Northern League knows that the situation is delicate. And if from the Sicilian trials for kidnapping, for the blockade of migrant boats, Salvini is convinced to leave with his head held high, the situation in the north is more serious, where three prosecutors – Genoa, Milan and Bergamo – are closing the circle on the financial structures of the Carroccio. And where the existence of an undergrowth of arrangers and mediators is outlined who carry out maneuvers and deals on behalf of the League.

The latest headache for Salvini comes from the crossing, revealed yesterday by Corriere della Sera, of two investigations carried out by the Milan Prosecutor’s Office. The most recent and dynamic, that of the shed trimmed by three Northern League accountants at the Lombardy Film Commission, has a point of contact with another investigation that, after the initial great uproar, had apparently lost its way: business in the land of Russia by Gianluca Savoini, a henchman in Salvini’s Moscow, with the (unsuccessful) attempt to profit from a mega supply of petroleum products to Italy: and a part of the shield would have been earmarked for the League.

The point of contact between the two investigations is called Francesco Barachetti, from Bergamo, a small entrepreneur with some vicissitudes behind him. In the investigation to the Film Commission, Barachetti enters as executor of the renovation works of the Cormano warehouse, and collects 285 thousand euros. To get him the job, they are two of the accountants in the Northern League. On the other hand, Barachetti is the party’s trusted craftsman, he also works for the headquarters in via Bellerio, earning a lot thanks to the relationship of trust with the party’s staff. One suspicion of the investigators is that part of the money paid to Barachetti falls under the table in the availability of the leaders of the League. This is also what the less “orthodox” of the detained accountants, Michele Scillieri, refers to when in an interception that he unburdened, “those of the League have sucked mountains of money.” It is the same doubt that Senator Roberto Calderoli seems to harbor, when in recent days he raises the hypothesis that someone has “made the crest” of the Cormano shed.

Well, Barachetti’s name also appears on the eastern front. The Bergamo craftsman married a Russian girl, Tatiana Andreeva, who has maintained strong relations with the country of origin. At home, Andreeva has checking and business accounts, and part of the money her husband receives from the party goes to these accounts. With these funds, according to Courier, he buys an apartment in St. Petersburg. But even here researchers are asking the same question as in the case of the Film Commission: are the interests of the Lega behind Barachetti?

As you can see, there are many ideas to investigate, since, however you look at it, money flows are anything but linear. But to worry Salvini, it is also the time for investigations. While the leader carefully avoids talking about “mechanical justice,” it is a fact that the arrest request of the three accountants, which had been suspended for more than two months, was triggered near the elections. And even closer to the vote is the revelation of the relations between the electrician Barachetti and the world of the former USSR. They are not revelations capable of moving votes at the polls on Sunday. However, that the judicial climate for the League is getting heavy, Matteo Salvini does not escape it.
