Terror to via Scarlatti, in the heart of Vomero. Shortly after 12.30, while a strong windstorm hit the entire city, the trunk of one of the huge trees that characterize the main pedestrian artery of Vomero broke and fell to the ground hitting some parked cars. Bystanders were miraculously unharmed and fortunately sought refuge in nearby tents due to the powerful gusts of water. Almost completely destroyed at least three cars.
Firefighters are intervening to free the cars from the weight of the branches and secure the area, but the interventions are considerably complicated by the dozens of similar reports that come from all over the city. Also in via Tasso, a few steps from Largo Madre Teresa, a tree fell alone.
The problem of poor tree maintenance, particularly the lack of pruning and the lack of thinning of the thick foliage, comes back strongly to the fore on the first real day of bad weather. Without a doubt a bad sign for the autumn that is beginning to be felt.
