The Strada San Martino farmhouse on Castiglione Torinese hill, owned by the family of Marco Cordero di Montezemolo, 71, notary and brother of Luca, former president of Fiat, Ferrari and Confindustria, burned down. The flames broke out yesterday, on Christmas night, around 8:40 p.m. and in a few moments they engulfed some 400 square meters of ceiling. Then they also extended to the first floor of the farmhouse, leaving it unusable.

Several fire crews from Chivasso, Turin and other detachments worked through the night to tame the flames.

At the time of the fire there were seven people in the house: Marco Cordero di Montezemolo’s caretakers and in-laws, all thankfully unharmed. The professional was not at home and then came in the evening with his wife. All are well and thanks to the intervention of the mayor, Loris Lovera, they have now found accommodation in some rooms that the municipal administration has made available. In the farmhouse there were also rescued cattle and sheep.

Now the carabinieri are investigating the causes of the fire pending the report of the firefighters. The flames may have come out of the chimney.
