Florence, December 9, 2020 – Approx. 6,500 calls per day only in Tuscany, a twin power plant in Ancona and an integrated system that will serve three regions, with Marche and Umbria.

A Florence is operational in 112; the power plant is located in the Piero Palagi hospital unit in viale Michelangiolo. A unique number for emergencies, to contact both the police and the rescue forces, active in the provinces of Florence, Prato and Arezzo. From now until next March, it will gradually expand throughout the region.

The Florentine room, made up of 28 stations, will coordinate all calls, acting as a filter between citizens and the current 80 second-tier regional operations centers. When it is fully operational, it will receive 6,500 calls, four per minute. Between advantage, explains the Tuscan director of the single number Alessio Lubrani, There is geolocation of incoming calls: thanks to Viminale’s data processing center, the operator will be able to view the place of the call on his screen (both from mobile and landline).

In addition, the central is reached through e-call, the automatic emergency calls sent by cars registered after 2018 in the event of an accident. In addition to the multilingual service and support for the visually impaired user, it is finally possible to download the ‘Whera Are U’ application: it is an application for emergencies connected to the 112 switchboard, thanks to which it is also possible to contact the room at through a ‘silent call’, that is, only send the position in case of danger or threat.

With 112 “the available resources are rationalized, a very effective and timely service is launched for citizens, demonstrating how it is possible to play as a team,” explains Nardella. Health care, he underlines in reference to good practices that can be accelerated with the covid emergency, “must be close to the citizen, even at the territorial level.”

This “is a very important step” because it is “a European project, with which Tuscany is in line”. A consideration that “is even more valid in an international city like Florence: having this reference number for all those who arrive from other countries is an important element”, adds Bezzini.

According to Prefect Guidi, “the citizens will be safer from today.” For three reasons: the unification in a single number of the police and the emergency room; filtering, therefore, the possibility that the agents or the patrol closest to the caller intervene; finally for the geolocation system.

Finally, Mazzeo intervened and brought “the recognition of the entire Council” for a “European instrument, useful for citizens”. In the first phase of service implementation, it is explained, the ‘old numbers’ of assistance will remain active, to allow the diffusion of the unique number.
