On the day of the new Dpcm, which comes after the boom in infections registered in Italy in recent weeks, the president of the Higher Health Council Franco Locatelli intervenes on the issue, probably anticipating the government’s line.

The doctor, however, denied Chancellor Luigi Di Maio, who in recent days had spoken of the arrival of the Vaccine for COVID-19 between the end of 2020 and the beginning of 2021.

Locatelli optimistic about the situation of the pandemic

Never like today have Locatelli’s words been able to serve as clues about the decisions that Conte will announce for the new Dpcm, urgently approved by the executive just five days after the previous decree. The doctor is the president of the technical and scientific advisory body of the Ministry of Health.

Speaking about Lucia Annunziata’s program Half an hour more, Locatelli wanted to show himself optimistic about the pandemic situation in Italy. “There is no doubt that there has been an acceleration of infections in the last ten to fifteen days. But before talking about exponential growth I would be careful, we are not in this situation”, Locatelli assured.

The president described as “correct to look at the figures with the utmost attention”, but the situation is not so serious as to cause panic or alarm. “Only a third of the number of positives yesterday is symptomatic, in February and March all were symptomatic,” explained Locatelli.

Other experts recall, however, that in the course of the first wave, many positives were symptomatic for the simple fact that the swabs were much less.

Furthermore, the doctor’s position is similar to that already expressed in today’s edition of Fatto Quotidiano.

Therefore, the president of the CSS confirmed that there will be no new lock like March and April. “There may be territorial closures if there are epidemiological scenarios that require implementation”, but the priority continues to be “the protection of health with the maintenance of productive activities in the country.”

Locatelli, vaccine in spring 2021

Locatelli denied Luigi Di Maio’s announcement, stating that the coronavirus vaccine will arrive “presumably in the spring of 2021.”

Until then we have to live together to minimize the impact of the choroanvirus on the lives of Italians, “said the doctor.
