United States, flying over Los Angeles airport with a rocket backpack

THE ANGELS – “Control Tower, American 1997, we just passed a guy in a jet pack”. This is what we hear from aerial recordings being investigated by the US Federal Aviation Administration (FAA). Some flew backpacks with rockets over Los Angeles International Airport over the weekend. The sighting took place around 6:35 PM on Sunday and created some confusion.

“American 1997, ok thanks, was it to your left or to your right?” the controller asks. “On the left side about 300 meters more or less at our altitude,” the pilot replies. Another pilot also immediately reports the sighting.

“We just saw the kid get into the jet pack,” he says. The controller then warns a third aircraft in flight to be careful. “A person in a jet pack was seen 300 meters south of Los Angeles at about 3,000 feet,” continues the controller. An FBI spokeswoman, Laura Eimiller, told the LA Times that the agency is also investigating the incident. “The FBI is aware of the reports from the pilots on Sunday and is working to determine what happened,” the agency said in a statement.

TV Fox 11 Los Angeles obtained communications logs between the plane and the tower as the pilots approached the airport. The US military has done most of the research done on thrusters to conclude that helicopters are more functional.
