PALERMO – They call it “organized support”, but what is organized, According to the latest investigation by the Palermo Anti-Mafia District Directorate, there are violent clashes, guerrillas in stadiums and summits with the mafia to bring peace among fans who must be united in their passion for football and for the colors of Rosaneros. The investigation of the carabinieri presents a grim picture.
The history of organized support
The first organized group in Palermo was founded in 1974. It was called Club Pitre, later called Angeles del Norte. Three years later Commandos Aquile was born to which, in 1980, the Rosanero Brigades (founded by Giovanni Giordano, known as Johnny) and the Ultras Palermo Warriors (led by Sesto Terrazzini) joined.
In the second half of the eighties the Commandos Eagles e some young men founded the Old Guard. In 1999 the group Ultras Curva Sud (Ucs) was born, still active. The group of Ultras Curva Nord, Borgo Vecchio Sisma, Boys Zen, Club Filiciuzza, Warriors Arenella, Club Carini, Brigate Uditore completed the cheering scene organized in the north curve.
Between October and November 2013, the ultras of the north curve were divided, forming first three and then two different groups: one remained in the traditional upper ring while the other moved to the lower one.
In the 2014-2015 season The Rosanero, Guerreros, Ángeles del Norte, Arenella and Baaria Rosanero brigades joined forces under the name “Ultras Palermo 1900”.
The current distinction includes two groups: Curva Nord 12 Palermo (which brings together the Ultrà Warriors and the ‘dissidents’ of the lower north curve) and “Ultras Palermo 1900” (always in the upper north curve). The Ultrà Curva Nord Inferiore and Borgo Vecchio Sisma groups remain in the lower part of the North.
The top of the cheers
The head of the majority group, Curva Nord 12, is Rosario Fabrizio Lupo, assisted by Saverio Bevilacqua, both of whom had previously been subjected to Daspo.
Lupo, with a long experience at Borgo Vecchio Sisma, came into conflict with charismatic characters such as Pasquale Minardi, Vincenzo Campisi and Giuseppe Saiola. So he decided to move from the lower north to the upper part where the founder of the Warriors, Sesto Terrazzini, does not have an official role.
Jhonny Giordano
The leader of the Ultras Palermo 1900 group is Giovanni Girdano, known as Johnny, the historical name for organized typhus. For a time he was hired as a custodian at the Zamparini brand in Palermo. Following the bankruptcy of the old company, Giordano, who has some criminal records, lost his job and returned to the corners. Meanwhile, the balance had shifted and he had to accept Lupo’s new leadership.
The head of the fans of the lower north curve is Pasquale Minardi, rooted in the Borgo Vecchio.
The role of the mafia
In the past, the role of Cosa Nostra had already emerged as a guarantor of the balance between the fans within the Barbera stadium, which is located between the mafia districts of Resuttana and San Lorenzo-Tommaso Natale. Today the names would have changed, but not the influence of the mafia.
A key role would play Jari Massilinao Ingarao, son of Nicola, former regent of the Porta Nuova district assassinated by Lo Piccolo, and nephew of Angelo Monti, today identified at the top of the Borgo Vecchio mafia family. Both were arrested in the bombing this morning.
The connecting link
Ingarao would constitute “one of the links between the world that revolves around Palermo” and the mafia. He did not like the clashes between the fans: “… these things should not exist because here we are reaching the point where the curve is going to be empty”.
And then he had chosen Giorgio Mangano as a single point of contact to fix things. This is what happened when Giordano, Lupo and Bevilacqua clashed.
Fans stalked
Giordano was monitored on September 29 last year when he arrived at Ingarao’s house in via delloSpeziale. He had been accompanied by a certain Mimmo, not better identified. And it was Mimmo himself who took the floor: “But do you know that Saverio Lupo? … that Saverio … the one who gave him a head butt in the stadium … Johnny had a fight … had an argument. .. I wanted to tell you uncle … (Angelo Monti “).
“… i don’t need mimmo – Ingarao replied – we can also do it at the level that I command for him … you know that you Johnny cannot afford it … take him and give him two of them beautiful and beautiful … he has already taken them away from me … . in the stadium “.
Ingarao left home just in time to report Giordano’s visit to his uncle Monti, who cut him short: “I don’t want to talk to him, you tell him: I haven’t seen him with my uncle … I give confidence “.
The next day there was a new meeting. This time, Mangano accompanied Giordano to Ingarao’s house. The latter had summoned Lupo and Bevilacqua. Ingarao didn’t like his soft approach: “Tell him: you have to do what I say.” You have to do it yourself. As he said at the time ”. Thus, it had been authorized by someone who would be above Ingarao himself. Then Mangano called Lupo and handed the phone to Ingarao: … these things don’t have to exist. “
Honor and revenge offended
They weren’t the only disagreements. Some members of Giordano’s Ultras Palermo 900 group had left to follow the Palermo involved in Nola on October 27 of last year. The bus was blocked by the opposing fans who tore scarves and T-shirts from Palermo, the spoils of a mad war that will be shown during the match.
Upon returning to Palermo, Lupo and Bevilacqua they demanded that Giordano stage a revenge exemplary against the fans of Nola. “But all this noise says why for a torn shirt,” Giiordano downplayed. Who thought of a painless method to “close the conversation”: spread the rumor that Giordano had beaten up a fan, whom he refers to as the scapegoat for Nola’s deeds.
The meeting
A meeting was then organized in the presence of Giovanni Giammona, designated as an “affiliate” of the Porta Nuova family, and Luigi Gardina, brother-in-law of chief Gianni Nicchi. Before the appointment, Giordano called Sesto Terrazzini: “You know I have problems with Fabrizio … and he told me that Fabrizio says … he also loves Sesto and Fabiuccio … now he says that Giorgio calls says at four o’clock and do Let them come to the bar from me to… the papyrus he says… also to Fabio and Sesto… okay… ”.
At the end of the match, after Giordano admitted his faults, it was decided that the fan “guilty” of not defending the honor of the fans by ripping off his shirt was not appreciated in the stadium.
Botte between Palermo
On November 17, 2019 in Palmi (Reggio Calabria), the Serie D championship match between Palmese and Palermo was played. During the break, hell broke out in the Rosanero fans sector. If they gave you a good reason. The balance was of several wounded.
The interception made it possible to trace the cause of the brawl in the contrasts between Lupo and Bevillcaqua on the one hand and Minardi on the other. It was the latter’s group that improved the fight in Palmi, from which Giordano’s group was left out. But he hoped in the infighting to regain the position of leader that he had reluctantly yielded to Lupo.
In this case, however, the mob would have chosen not to intervene. This could be guessed from the conversation between Giorgio Mangano and Gioacchino Pispicia, the son of Salvatore, a Porta Nuova mobster: “Let’s do our own business.”
The Palmi rickshaws fight to trigger new confrontations. Some fans of the Ultras Curva Nord 12 group, who returned to Palermo after the trip to Calabria, were planning punitive expeditions to Borgo Vecchio. Gaetano Dainotti said Barabbas, a Curva Nord 12 fan and nephew of the boss Giuseppe Dainotti, killed in 2017, spoke about it with another fan, Giuseppe Di Michele, who urged a harsh intervention: “… and what should we do? We have to go down there, shouldn’t we go down? I already have everything here … the sweets inside the souvenirs inside the car, set, set ”. What were they talking about?
Challenge in the square
Lupo and Bevilacqua gathered 90 people in Piazzale Giotto challenging the fans of the Minardi group who, however, did not show up for the appointment. Another fan, Pietro Schillaci, was one of the toughest interventionists: “Saverio is not us, you don’t listen to me, you don’t listen to me anymore, you don’t piss me off, don’t drive me crazy, you can’t hear me and Fabrizio do you feel … commander Palermo? Now take this … you have to take a position, they no longer have to ride … they no longer have to ride, do you agree … do you agree? You have to go to 20 years in jail, do you? Do you agree? You don’t have to make them ride anymore, we have to kill each other. ”Fortunately, Minardi’s group did not appear.
“See you in Piazza Politeama”
The clash was only postponed until piazza Castelnuovo on November 19. The militants of the Curva Nord 12 showed up waiting for the fans of the Curva Nord Inferiore who even arrived armed. “They are armed acchianannu and sunnu puru,” said Lupo and Bevilacqua.
At that moment the commissioner and the prefect were alerted. The presence of the police officers prevented the worst.
The rematch was only postponed until the Rosanero’s next home game against Messina. Only in the meantime, “the Christians”, that is, the mafia, intervened to block everything and impose peace. On December 8th in the next match against Acireale, as never happened in recent times, the upper north and lower corners were compact.
A few months after the peace between the Northern partisans there was a new problem to be solved. If in September 2019 Monti had chosen not to speak with Jhonny Giordano, things would have been different last March.
When intercepting Monti, the bugs have collected his words with a stranger: “… tell me something, come closer … this Saverio and Fabrizio from Passo di Rigano, what kind are they … but they have to finish it”.
