As a precautionary measure, ASL has decided to temporarily close both the kindergarten and the applicable middle school. The 23 kindergarten children with parents and siblings and the two teachers undergo swabs during these hours. In the other case, however, the swabs of the close contacts and the checks of other contacts are in progress.

Regarding the situation of the cases, except for the first person who tested positive in the Portoferraio family, who was transferred to a hospital on the outskirts of Elba, all the other cases are asymptomatic or with mild symptoms.

Mayor Zini explained that, however, the attention is high and that the search for contacts for detection continues. Genghi explained the complexity of the operations to reconstruct contacts with intense work from the first hours and also explained that the infections most likely occurred in an after-school setting. In this regard, Genghi explained that he considered it appropriate to arrange the closure of the two school complexes to better monitor the situation, underlining that he had warned all those involved as soon as this morning he learned of the positive swabs in children. A decision that initially caused some chaos, but was correct to make, Genghi stressed.

Given that the elections will take place, the schools concerned will be subject to special sanitation and will in any case be the headquarters of the electoral college. The reopening of the complexes scheduled for next Thursday according to the school calendar linked to the elections will allow the Local Health Authority, the Municipality and the inclusive Institute, also based on the results of the swabs in progress, to evaluate when and how to reopen the two buildings safely. schools closed.

Both the mayor and the ASL and the School explained that the situation is constantly monitored and that there is no ongoing health emergency. Finally, the call to families and children was directed to scrupulously observe the rules to avoid the spread of the virus, especially outside schools where there are no controls, both with a mask and maintaining the rules of distancing and avoiding risky behaviors.
