Two infections among staff: emergency room closed even for covid patients
Very serious situation at the San Martino di Oristano hospital
There is no peace for the Oristano Emergency Department. Closed for 42 days to non-covid patients since the end of October, reopened in early December and closed again a week later, today it is at the center of a case of coronavirus infection, which involved two health workers involved in the service. . As soon as the news of the two positive swabs arrived, the Emergency Service, already last night, was closed to all new accesses, including, therefore, those of covid patients.
Now, in compliance with the established procedures, about 10 hospitalized patients must be transferred to allow the sanitation of the premises. Furthermore, all personnel must be cleaned and must observe the isolation pending reports.
The new outbreak adds to those already reported in the Medicine, Orthopedics, Intensive Care, Nephrology and Radiology wards and rethinks the problem posed by the health workers unions regarding the absence of adequate “dirty / clean” pathways to protect to staff and other patients of the risk of infection.
It should be noted that last week the withdrawal of patients bound for the San Martino medical pavilion, temporarily destined only for covid patients, with 45 available beds, left the covid pavilion and the Bosa hospital. An operation that consisted of allowing the emergency room to rise from the presence of covid patients and then return it to its original function.
However, the patient redeployment plan has slowed down due to the spread of the virus among the doctors and nurses in the ward, whose availability is now reduced to about half the staff.
