One of them, a Slovenian citizen, initially declared missing, was found dead in the snow by rescuers. His companions survived. The victim was hit by the avalanche near the Pic Majot at an altitude of 1650 meters. During the descent, a 70-meter-wide and 40-centimeter-thick slab of windblown snow fell off the mountain hitting the three skiers. One of them could not stop his fall, which ended tragically against a tree.
