Twitter on fire as 9-year-old boy is kicked out of Fortnite

Fortnite is one of the most famous Battle Royale games. Due to the great popularity, controversies surround Fortnite from time to time. The latter is a Brazilian boy who was banned by Epic Games for 4 years.

A sizeable portion of the Fortnite community includes young fans who have yet to enter their teens. Therefore, Epic has implemented rules that prevent children under the age of 13 from participating in competitive tournaments or game modes that include a prize pool. Additionally, players below Epic’s age limit also need parental consent to participate in certain competitive matches that do not have cash prizes involved. This brings us to the current situation.

Zenon, a 9-year-old Brazilian Fortnite player, has been kicked out of the battle royale for 1,460 days. It means he’s banned for a total of 4 years until he turns 13. It’s safe to say that Brazil is not a featured region for the Fortnite competitive scene, but this kid has already made a name for himself playing Fortnite. Zenon has more than 130,000 followers on Twitch.

Reason for Zenon’s Fortnite ban

Zenon was banned for playing some matches in Arena mode, which is a competitive mode but does not include cash prizes. The nine-year-old boy, accompanied by his viewers and his father with him, was banned from the broadcast. It drove the boy to cry. Although it appears that Zenon had his father’s permission to play, once Epic discovered the violation of the Terms of Service, they took action. Zenon is now unable to participate in a Fortnite tournament or play in Arena mode until he is 13 years old.

#FreeZenon Trends on Twitter

After Zenon’s dramatic ban, #FreeZenon became a trend on Twitter. It was started by his followers, as well as Fortnite fans, who were sad to see the dreams of the would-be boy crushed. More than 100,000 people have tweeted with the hashtag, including some notable names in the gaming community.

FaZe Banks pleaded with the developers to let the boy play Fortnite again.

Ninja and Zayt also teamed up to share their opinions on the matter.

Ninja and Tfue also discussed Epic’s ban on the 9-year-old Brazilian boy in their respective broadcasts. Here’s a featured video, if you want to see what they said.

Epic has delivered questionable bans on Fortnite previously. Professional players XXiF and Ronaldo were banned for only two weeks after they were found guilty of cheating in last year’s Fortnite World Cup qualifiers. Another professional gamer, Javis Kaye, received a lifetime ban for using aimbot to show his viewers how unfair the trick was.

It is understandable that the rules are made for a reason. If one breaches the TOS, they deserve punishment. But a long 4-year Arena ban could crush a child’s dreams for professional e-sports. What are your views on Zenon’s ban? Do you think it is justified? Let us know in the comment section!
