Twitter has announced that Joe Biden, when he takes office in January 2021 as president of the United States, will not inherit the millions of followers of Donald Trump when he takes over the official account of the president of the United States (@POTUS). The same will happen with the White House account (@White House).

In 2017, however, then-outgoing President Barak Obama had left the Donald Trump account and a follower of the @POTUS account, as he recalled on Twitter Rob Flaherty, head of information technology on Joe Biden’s committee, added: “Twitter has informed us that the Biden administration will have to start from scratch from now on.”

The same will happen with the accounts of the outgoing first lady Melania Trump (@FLOTUS) and outgoing White House Secretary Kayleigh McEnany (@PressSec). Facebook, on the other hand, should allow the presidential accounts and their respective followers to be transferred to the new administration.
