Turin, father hires thug to punish his gay son | “Break your hands, you don’t have to be a surgeon anymore”

A photo in a gossip newspaper triggered it all: To tell the story, it was the protagonist, a 40-year-old professional surgeon, who in the newspaper La Stampa described the last three terrifying years of life. At the end of 2016 the doctor goes to his parents’ house and introduces his partner and announces his homosexuality to the family. An event that seems to be accepted by everyone. But then something happens that changes the cards on the table: in 2017, a well-known gossip published weekly photos that showed the surgeon in the company of a well-known actor on a French beach. The father loses his mind. And he starts arguing and being violent even at home. So much so that his wife, after 42 years of marriage, decides to leave him.

Since 2017 the first attacks and the encounter with the bully – The first to be attacked is the companion of the protagonist of the story. Then one day, a stranger approaches the surgeon outside the house. He turns out to be the bully hired by his father tasked with “breaking his hands” to ruin his career. But the criminal, prisoner of a moral doubt (“you seem like a good person” he said) warns him of what his father has done and they feign an attack. He did not want to give up the € 2,500 promised for the beating. And it is at this point that the surgeon triggers the complaint.

The father negotiates two years – He did not want to report the father, but he also understood that he would not stop. Vandalism against cars and the fear of being attacked by other criminals have brought the matter before a judge. And after two years of terror (“Friends accompanied me everywhere, I was afraid that sooner or later someone would ruin my life”) here comes the sentence: a two-year plea agreement without compensation for the damage.

Father and son no longer speak to each other, except through lawyers. The doctor will not forgive the father for the violence suffered by the mother. A family perhaps destroyed by jealousy, by the envy that the father felt when he saw his son achieve his own social and economic independence. Maybe he beat everything, maybe it was no longer under his control. Delirious also the things he wrote on Facebook where he spoke of “revenge that must be consumed cold.” It is not clear why he had to take revenge, what is clear is that the patriarchal family that he had imagined no longer exists. And it’s good for everyone.
