(ANSA) – WASHINGTON, SEPTEMBER 23 – The United States will ban the importation of cigars and rum, and will prohibit American travelers from staying in facilities owned by the Cuban government: Donald Trump announced at the White House in a ceremony to commemorate the invasion of Bahia de Pigs, a failed attempt to overthrow the government of Fidel Castro under the leadership of the CIA. The president’s move has an electoral flavor, to win over the Hispanic electorate in Florida, one of the states in the balance.

“Today, as part of our ongoing fight against communist oppression, I announce that the Treasury Department will prohibit American travelers from staying on Cuban government property,” he said. “We will also further restrict the importation of American alcohol and tobacco,” he added. (HANDLE).
