The Italian Yamaha Petronas wins his first GP in the top flight, ahead of Ducati Pramac and Mir. Vale at the foot of the podium, Quartararo falls and the Forlì rider leads the world championship
Yamaha party and Italian joy in Misano. The sparkling wine is uncorked by Franco Morbidelli who masterfully prevails in the San Marino GP of MotoGP, his first success in the highest category, preceding Francesco Bagnaia, splendid 2nd on his return after a fractured tibia, completing the tricolor party after a finish positive week. Joan Mir closed the podium with Suzuki, ahead of Valentino Rossi, who lost 3rd place on the last lap. Borgo Panigale’s joy comes from the world leadership of Andrea Dovizioso, 7th, who now leads the world championship with 6 points over Quartararo, who fell.
Quartararo’s knockout
In the extraordinary performance of Yamaha, the disappointment of Fabio Quartararo stands out, slipping on lap 8, when he was fourth, he starts again, but falls again, reopening even more the matches of an increasingly indefinite world championship. The poleman Vinales is also opaque, only sixth after a choice of tires against the current compared to the previous one.
Consecration Morbidelli
The winning ‘Time out’ is therefore for the Italian Yamaha Petronas who celebrates his first success in MotoGP with the new helmet. For his jewel, Morbidelli chooses the San Marino GP, in front of 10,000 spectators, the first reopening after the closure, with an imperial behavior. He resisted Rossi first in the opening laps, then took off and controlled with ease. It is the consecration of a strong driver and a sober and sensitive person who can find a greater awareness of this success. Morbidelli, for the record, becomes the fourth all-time winner, after 6 races, of the season.
Bagnaia flies
Behind him is very happy Francesco Bagnaia, extraordinarily happy on his return after a fractured tibia: excellent result was his 2nd place, first podium for him in MotoGP, with Ducati Pramac, thinking about the highly probable promotion with the factory team . . Dovizioso takes advantage of it, leads the world championship, but to stay there he may have to change his pace.
Rossi scoffed
Well Rossi, who fought tenaciously in the early stages, only to retreat into the distance and be outwitted on the last lap by the fiery Joan Mir, who made a great comeback with Suzuki, snatching the podium just a few corners from the finish line. The ‘old man’ weekend however is still very positive.
the race
Morbidelli took the lead early on and never gave up. After the start, the Morbidelli-Rossi pairing set the pace, with Miller getting in the way of the other Yamaha pairing Viñales-Quartararo and the Frenchman struggling to overtake. Rossi tries a couple of attacks on Morbidelli, then backs away, Quartararo goes around 7 laps to pass Viñales and launch himself onto the podium, but a few corners later he slides into Turn 4 giving encouragement to everyone’s hopeful world championships. Rins comes back up and with him Bagnaia, very daring. Midway through the race, Pramac’s driver is fourth, with a crazy pace, as Morbidelli takes off and Rossi is sucked into the Suzuki comeback that ignites the fight. Show served during the last 4 laps: Bagnaia stretches on the straight, Rossi resists, but Mir pushes and beats him on the last lap. Depriving Italy of a hat-trick that would have been insane.
