Agitu Gudeta, the 42-year-old Ethiopian refugee who became a symbol of integration for the success of her organic farm, Capra Felice – eleven hectares and eighty native goats in the Mocheni valley, in Trentino – was found dead in her house in Frassilongo (Trento). According to preliminary information, it would be murder. In the woman’s body there would be injuries attributable to a violent act. Perhaps they had hit her with a hammer on the head. When they found the woman already dead, in the bedroom, the neighbors, alerted by an acquaintance of the victim, were concerned that the woman had not gone out on a date.

The carabinieri attended the scene together with the magistrate, and clarifications are expected from the coroner on the causes of death. Since the first reports there are no indications of forced entry. About two years ago, Agitu had received threats and racially motivated assault – “Black black you have to go,” according to the press – from the man who lives in the cabin near the “organic shepherd.”

Last January, the perpetrator of the violence, who also attacked the Malian cheesemaker he was helping Agitu, had been sentenced to nine months for injuries by the Court of Trento, while the charge of stalking for racial discrimination had been dropped, contrary to what was requested by the prosecutor. Agitu, born in Addis Ababa in 1978, had studied sociology at the University of Trento and later returned to her country. In 2010, due to the internal conflict situation, she had returned to Italy and the Mocheni Valley, where a German-speaking minority has lived since the Middle Ages, she had given birth to her company that also participated in television broadcasts and magazines such as Vanity. Fair. In Trento he had opened a point of sale for goat’s milk-based cheeses and cosmetics. On his Facebook profile he had just written “Merry Christmas to those who come from the south, Merry Christmas to those who come from the north, Merry Christmas to those who come from the sea, Merry Christmas for a new vision and awareness in our hearts.”
