Tre Cime di Lavaredo, savior loses his life during training

During a joint training between the Veneto Alpine and Speleological Rescue and the Alpine Rescue of the Guardia di Finanza in Tre Cime di Lavaredo, today the elected bailiff, of special qualification, Sergio Francese, 55 years old, belonging to the Sagf Station of Cortina d’Ampezzo and the Auronzo Mountain Rescue, has lost his life.

The accident happened during helicopter hover phases from the ledge of the Pyramid, a branch of the Cima Grande. For reasons to be determined, the lifeguard was hit by the rotor while climbing. Immediate intervention of the companions present at the scene, who was replaced by the medical staff of the Dolomites Aiut Alpin in Bolzano who immediately landed in the face.

Unfortunately, resuscitation attempts were futile and it was only possible to determine his death. The body was transported downstream at the disposal of the judiciary.

The Veneto Alpine and Speleological Rescue, above all President Rodolfo Selenati, clings to the pain of Sergio’s son and family. Maurizio Dellantonio, national president of the Alpine and Speleological Rescue, also expresses his deepest condolences.

Also the Minister of Economy and Finance, Hon. Prof. Roberto Gualtieri, the Minister of the Interior, Pref. Luciana Lamorgese and the General Commander of the Guardia di Finanza, General CA Giuseppe Zafarana, express their deepest condolences for the tragic death of graduated during the exercise.
