The Under shield, a company from Fontaniva, in the province of Padua, produces a certified transparent mask capable of protecting against the coronavirus responsible for Covid-19, without limiting the fundamental eye contact: in fact, it allows lip reading which is essential for deaf people and dumb and, in view of the reopening of schools, also for teachers and also for healthy students.
A School horizon the founder of the company intervenes, Paolo Pandin: “After contacting the Ministry of Education, we received instructions from the team of Commissioner Domenico Arcuri, to whom we gave the technical documentation of our transparent mask. At first it will be distributed to
teachers of schools for the deaf and the dumb, that is why we are also in contact with the Magarotto Institute for the deaf in Padua and Rome, and then I also imagine the other institutes ”.
“Our transparent mask is manufactured following the directives of current legislation. Approval as a protection device certified by the Ministry of Health should arrive in days. We are ready with the production of the masks on a large scale, we do not have an order yet, precise, but it is not a challenge that scares us, we will increase the production lines ”.
Where did the idea for the transparent mask come from?
“We understand that with the traditional mask it is not easy to communicate especially with deaf people. So this could be useful for teachers in all schools. Orders came in from Sweden, Spain, Hungary and Denmark. They have understood before abroad that it can be essential for many people who are in serious difficulties. Not only that, we have carried out in-depth studies to understand what material to use, what to use better as a filter, they are not poor materials, they are not improvised masks at all ”.
What are the distribution times?
“Well, I’m ready, as long as they tell me to start and go with the production, I don’t think they will be very long times, far from it.”
