MIGRATION DRAMA – The 24-year-old, of Afghan origin, had already been dead for hours. The body was found around 5 in the afternoon in the warehouse.
After experiencing shortness of breath, he suffered from suffocation and cardiac arrest and was unable to call for help. This is how a 24-year-old illegal passenger of Afghan origin died, found dead this afternoon on a ferry from Greece. The doctor 118 who arrived at the scene found that the death of the young man had occurred several hours ago, probably during the crossing of the Adriatic Sea and, in any case, before the ship docked in the port of Ancona. On the lifeless body, found under a truck in the hold of the ferry, it was therefore not possible to carry out resuscitation maneuvers. The alarm went off today around 4:30 p.m. when medical aid, self-medics and ambulances from the Yellow Cross and Polmare arrived at the Doric naval port. The ferry, which arrived from Patras and docked right next to Pier 11, where the procession of boats for the 38th Festival of the Sea began an hour later, during which the authorities present expressed dismay and sadness over the incident. It is not the first time that a migratory tragedy has occurred in the port of Ancona, a crossroads of the Mediterranean and an open door to the East. Many young people hope to arrive in Italy in search of a better future by hiding in the trucks stored in the ferry garages and in the hope of being able to pass the border controls hooked to the axles of heavy vehicles as “pump men”.
