Three gendarmes were shot dead overnight and a fourth wounded in an isolated village in the center of France. The army was hit by a 48 year old man while trying to save his wife who had taken refuge on the roof of a house, near the village of Saint-Just, in the Clermont-Ferrand.
The alleged murderer was found dead this morning, according to the Interior Minister himself on Twitter. Police sources a the world reported that the man committed suicide in his car. The wife was rescued in the night. and questioned to try to reconstruct what happened. It appears that the authorities already knew of the gunman for complaints related to child custody issues.
The gendarmes had been summoned for a complaint of violence in the family, sources from the Public Prosecutor’s Office told AFP. The officers approached the home shortly after midnight and were shooting target. The gunman initially shot and killed one officer and wounded another, before set fire to the house. According to the Clermont-Ferrand prosecution, two other officers were shot and killed.
