“They tried to gouge out an eye”

Brutal assault at the Cardarelli hospital in Naples where a nurse was kicked and beaten by the family of a hospitalized girl. The beating reportedly took place around 2 in the morning while the health worker was on duty. The victim herself told the police by filing a regular complaint. The reason for the attack was the couple’s concern about the health of their 20-year-old daughter, who complained of chest pains. The two attacked the 55-year-old nurse by kicking and punching her. The woman was treated and judged curable in 10 days. The Carabinieri took part in the act, to whom the nurse informed that the couple had already gone to the hospital the day before and even in that case an argument had arisen, which did not lead to physical attacks. The two attackers will be denounced by the Carabinieri for beatings and injuries, while investigations are being carried out to identify two other people who accompanied the girl’s parents.

Nurse attacked in Cardarelli in Naples: “Unheard of violence”

It is not the first incident of its kind to occur to the detriment of health workers. According to “Hands Off Hippocrates”, an association created to protect health personnel, the four attackers even tried to gouge out an eye.

“We received news from certain sources – we read in a post – that a nurse (woman) from the Cardarelli of Naples has suffered a violent physical attack by a group of four thugs who, after having knelt, beat, kicked, pulled her hair and tempted to take an eye out, there have been repeated, continuous, unstoppable, violent, ferocious and above all (perhaps) premeditated attacks.

All this seems to have happened because of not wanting to wait for the patient to register for triage and procedures dictated by covid protocols. It was an unprecedented violence, perpetuated for about 15 minutes with a single objective: to avenge a simple wait for a stable patient, only agitated.

“What happened last night is of unprecedented gravity. An indescribable episode that cannot and should not go unpunished ”. This was stated in a note from the strategic direction of the Antonio Cardarelli hospital in Naples about the attack suffered last night by a nurse. “The solidarity of the entire hospital is for our nurse and her family. We are ready to appear as a civil party and determined to do everything in our power so that the perpetrators of this violence are identified and prosecuted. The safety of our operators has always been a top priority, an objective that we pursue through the proven surveillance service, but also in consultation with the police ”, the note concludes.
