“There is no emergency in available beds”

The Campania Region has issued a statement clarifying the regional health emergency situation, clarifying in fact that there is no saturation of beds in Campania hospitals: “The Covid-19 Emergency Crisis Unit announces the following:

1. There is no urgency related to available beds, neither for intensive care nor for ordinary hospitalization. If only one health facility is left without hospitalization (and at the appropriate time has already organized the planned expansion of places), the data cannot refer to a general emergency, which does not exist.

2. To date, here is the regional beds report:

Intensive care places available: 92

Intensive care beds occupied: 47

Hospital beds available: 555

Occupied hospital beds: 460

3. As planned in previous weeks, “Phase C” is fully completed in the next 48 hours, which provides for the activation of 600 hospital beds, 200 in sub-intensive and 200 in intensive care. All this will be operational in 48 hours. It is evident that we are working progressively, in relation to the growth of infections. It would be completely unreasonable to create hundreds of beds, reducing other services, in the absence of demand.

4. The modular Covid hospitals are ready and can be activated in case of need. Naples already has 28 inpatient beds and 12 intensive care beds. Even the Covid hospitals in Caserta and Salerno are fully functional and can be activated in case of need. Reports that they are closed and unstaffed are unfounded.

5. To avoid the dissemination of distorted news that often does not correspond to reality, as of tomorrow, the Crisis Unit will be available with its own contact person to provide all the requested information ”.
