The Veneto that says “we”

The president of the Veneto region, Luca Zaia, interviewed by Carmelo Lopapa in Repubblica has launched an appeal to the population to respect basic norms “obsessively”, from the use of masks to distancing to personal hygiene. The real front is this: Zaia analyzes the change that has occurred with respect to the spring situation: “The covid no longer seems a problem for the community but for the individual who is contagious, of the patient who has just been hospitalized. We have passed from us to me. And so we run the risk of losing the war against the epidemic ”. Not only is there no trace of populist complacency, in his words is the sense of responsibility of someone who knows how to admonish without seeking easy popularity. Also on the possibility that Veneto ends up in a higher alarm level, he gives a lesson in seriousness: the fact that his region is now in the less serious range satisfies him “because it is a recognition of our work”, but he says without rodeos. that “on the other hand, I am concerned that this is perceived as a message to lower our guard and go to parties.” It does not use the extraordinary consensus that it enjoys among Venetian citizens to make controversies with the national government, on the contrary it says that “against the gatherings we must all work together, at the national level.” He remembers that “all the measures were approved unanimously, never our votes against”, but he rightly asked that if the classification of his region was changed, “I would like to give my opinion.” Zaia is confirmed as a man of government, committed to the common front in the fight against the pandemic without shyness or complacency. His interview aroused the enthusiasm, for example, of Carlo Calenda and it is hoped that Matteo Salvini will also reflect. Zaia has never yielded the slightest rope to those who saw him as an alternative to the leadership of the League, he does his very difficult job well and does not want to interfere with the national political logic, but speaking clearly and identifying with some depth the main problem, that of social stability, more critical today than healthcare in contrast to Covid, indicates a line that will be difficult to ignore.
